  • Are air conditioners bad for your health?

No. Air conditioners which are used and maintained in the wrong way could cause symptoms of a cold or make you stiff because of prolonged exposure to direct cold airflow. Performing frequent maintenance on your air conditioner guarantees clean and healthy environment.  Periodic cleaning of filters prevents from mold and bacteria which cause respiratory diseases and allergies. Modern air conditioners are improved in order to meet the highest requirements for comfort temperature. Thanks to their integrated mechanisms, you are enabled to set their operating mode, the airflow strength and direction, as well as to make most of the innovative functions of your air conditioner.

  • What is a healthy room temperature?

According to DIN standards, you should not set your air conditioner to a temperature lower than 25°C in cooling mode and the difference between indoor and outdoor temperature should not be more than  6°C. For instance, if the temperature is 32°C outside, your room temperature should not be lower than 26°C. A lower temperature will lower the humidity level in the room, which will make your nose and throat dry, causing symptoms similar to those of a cold. Nevertheless, temperatures in Bulgaria are often higher so it is acceptable to set your air conditioner to a bigger temperature difference. A sudden change in temperature – from very cold to warm/hot - can cause unpleasant contrast which might result in getting a cold.

  • Is conditioned air cleaner than outdoor air?

Most ordinary air conditioners only circulate the air in the room. Others have special filters that purify the indoor air and fill it with negatively charged ions. It is possible that conditioned air gets cleaner than outdoor air if your air conditioner is properly maintained and its filters regularly cleaned. Clean healthy air also depends on external factors and pollutants such as location, geographical features, industry, traffic and others. Some air conditioner models have a function to provide fresh outdoor air as well as to regulate the humidity level in the room.

  • Can air conditioning cause allergic reactions or other diseases?

No. A properly maintained and used air conditioner will not cause allergic or other diseases. Most internal components of the air conditioner get moistened while operating and you need to perform periodic cleaning. Maintaining the filters of your air conditioner clean is essential if you want to prevent molds, bacteria and microorganisms.

  • Are direct cold drafts bad for you?

Modern air conditioners offer their users a variety of features thanks to which you can regulate the air flow entirely according to your own preferences. Integrated innovative technologies not only enable you to regulate the temperature, humidity and flow rate but also to avoid cold drafts.

  • How much electricity does an air conditioner consume?

Modern air conditioners outstand for their high energy efficiency and running costs. For instance, a 9000BTU inverter air conditioning system for a medium-sized room will consume about 137 kWh energy in cooling season (in agreement with EN14825). Energy efficiency and running costs depend directly on how you use your air conditioner. Most air conditioner models feature automatic adjustment of the microclimate in a given room, and operate at high levels of energy efficiency using minimum power.

  • How often should I perform maintenance on my air conditioner?

Air conditioning preventative maintenance depends on the way you use and service your own air conditioner. We recommend performing preventative maintenance on your AC once a year, as it is essential for its long life and seamless operation. Preventative maintenance involves disassembly and washing the plastic elements of your indoor unit, cleaning the heat exchanger and, if needed, cleaning the outdoor unit. Take care of your air conditioner and it will ensure a clean healthy environment, free of prerequisites for the growth of harmful for humans molds and microorganisms.

  • What is the average life expectancy of a newly purchased air conditioner?

If maintained correctly and frequently, good air conditioners are designed to have a useful life for about 14 years. However, many air conditioners can operate for even more than 20 years.

  • Is heating by means of air conditioning cheaper than the traditional, for example, gas heating?

This depends largely on local electricity supply and natural gas prices, for example. Nevertheless, in many regions it is cheaper. This is due to the fact that when a heat pump air conditioning heats, it takes most of the heat energy from the outdoor air – which is completely free of cost! It is possible that heating by means of heat pump air conditioning can be up to 60% cheaper compared to a gas boiler.

  • Can air conditioners be installed in any home?

Practically, yes. Most residential air conditioners are light enough to be mounted even on plaster walls. The only  requirement is that the home has good power supply.

  • Can an air conditioner be installed by anyone or is an expert required?

In order to make sure your air conditioner has a long life and is properly-functioning with the highest possible efficiency at lower costs, it should be installed by a qualified expert possessing specialized tools, skills and knowledge. Since air conditioners contain different refrigerants, their inspection and maintenance should also be performed by certified personnel. To avoid errors due to ignorance, inexperience or incompetence, which have a serious impact on the performance of your air conditioner, it should be installed by a team of specialists.

  • How long does it take to install an air conditioning system?

In most cases it is possible to install an air conditioner system in a day or even less. This, however, depends on many factors such as how many walls the hoses have to go through, where the power supply is, and whether the breaker panel has free circuit breakers to connect the air conditioner to.
