How to clean your air conditioner filters
Cleaning your air conditioner filters is essential to create and maintain a pure, fresh environment at home or in the office. Regular maintenance will improve your indoor air quality, increase the efficiency and extend the service life of your air conditioner. Air conditioner filters protect the internal components from becoming dirty and contribute to purifying the air. In addition to taking care of you by preventing the pathogens and allergens from spreading over the room, they also maintain a clean, wholesome environment for your family, friends and employees. Their regular cleaning is a guarantee for better air and healthier lifestyle.
Regular maintenance of your filters ensures a fresh and clean atmosphere every day, which undoubtedly affects life quality. To enjoy nice air in your home or office, we recommend cleaning the filters twice a month. Here we offer some advice on how to do it in the best possible way.
Step 1: Open your air conditioner
Make sure your air conditioner is off and not running. Different air conditioner system models are opened in different ways. Please, read the instruction manual that came with your air conditioner when you bought it.
Step 2: Remove the filters
Carefully remove the filters from your air conditioner. Check if they preserve their integrity. If their mesh has holes in it, you had better replace them with new ones if you want to keep your home or office environment clean and fresh. Besides, new unscathed filters will also protect the internal component parts of the air conditioner from dirt.
Step 3: Vacuum
Use a vacuum cleaner to remove deposited dust and other small particles. Clean as thoroughly as you can but be careful while you vacuum so as not to damage the filters' delicate mesh.
Step 4: Wash the filters
Mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a large container. Soak the filters and clean them thoroughly. The vinegar will kill all the bacteria and allergens that have been deposited in the filters. Allow the filters enough time to soak in the cleaning solution. We recommend approximately one hour, if maintained regularly. If you have not cleaned them recently, let them soak in the cleaning solution for four hours.
Step 5: Drain and dry
Remove the filters from the cleaning solution and leave them to drain. Do not rinse. Let them dry naturally, do not dry them out mechanically. For a most efficient and quick drying place them outdoors on a towel.
Step 6: Put the filters back
Carefully put the clean filters back into your air conditioner and close it. Enjoy cleaner, fresher air at home or in the office.
